Cockroach Control in Dubai, Sharjah & Abu Dhabi

The German cockroach is the small one that lives indoors, in the kitchen, and breeds where it lives. It is found behind and under appliances, in the hinge of a cupboard door, in the motor housing of a fridge, in cardboard, and in the gap behind a skirting. It never really came from outside, which is why sealing the front door achieves nothing against it.

The American cockroach is the large one that comes up from drains, manholes and service voids, usually at night, usually one or two at a time. It is a different problem with a different answer: the route is the target, not the kitchen. Treating an American problem with a German method, or the reverse, is the most common reason a treatment appears to fail, and identifying which you have is the first thing the inspection does.

For the indoor species, gel bait is the method that reaches the population rather than the visible individuals. It works by being eaten and carried back into the harbourage, so it gets into the void behind the units where the insects actually live and where no spray reaches. Placement is the craft: small amounts, in many places, on the surfaces they travel rather than the surfaces you see.

Residual spray is used too, on routes and entry points, but the sequencing matters. Depositing spray over or beside a bait placement contaminates it and makes the surrounding surface something the insect avoids, so the bait stops being eaten. Cockroaches need water more urgently than food, so a dripping trap, a leaking mixer or condensation under a sink will sustain a population through a treatment that would otherwise have ended it. Food debris under and behind appliances matters more than crumbs on a worktop. Cardboard is both harbourage and transport, and a delivery box left in a store room is how a clean kitchen becomes an infested one.

In a building with shared risers, treating one apartment while the population sits in the service shaft next door achieves very little. For blocks we would rather scope the building, the risers, the bin rooms and the units affected than take a series of single-flat call-outs that keep recurring, and we will say so rather than keep returning.

Activity usually rises briefly before it falls. Bait draws insects out of harbourage, and eggs laid before the visit hatch in the days after it, so sightings in the first two weeks are expected rather than a sign the treatment failed. What matters is the trend, and the follow-up visit is where it is judged.

Do not clean off the gel, and do not spray a household insecticide over or beside it. A supermarket aerosol around a bait placement is the most common reason a treatment underperforms between visits, and it undoes the part of the work that was reaching the population.
