Signs of termites in a finished building
Mud tubes are the clearest sign: pencil-width earth tunnels running up a foundation, an external wall, the back of a kitchen unit or the inside of a service duct. After them come door frames and skirting boards that sound hollow or give under a thumb, paint that blisters or ripples over timber, small piles of discarded wings on window sills after a swarm in the warmer months, and stored boxes or paper that crumble at the bottom.
In UAE villas the activity is often found first in the places that stay damp: under kitchen and bathroom units, along a wall where irrigation runs against it, behind wardrobes on an external wall and around a pergola or timber deck. Flying ants are commonly mistaken for termites; the survey settles which it is.
